Club Rules
GENERAL
One of the major objectives of Club tennis in the UK is to have the maximum number of people participating. To achieve this within the Club, SINGLES must give priority to DOUBLES if members are waiting to play, apart from tournament or official matches. In the interests of fair play to all members, if all courts are in use and there are players waiting, one short set only should be played, thus ensuring that waiting time is kept to a minimum for everyone.
1. CLUB SESSIONS
SENIORS
Sunday 10.00am to 1.00pm
Monday 1.00pm to 3.30pm
Tuesday & Friday 7.00pm to 10.00pm
Thursday 1.00pm to 3.30pm
JUNIOR COACHING
Monday 3.30pm to 8.30pm
Tuesday & Friday 3.30pm to 7.00pm
Wednesday 3.30pm to 6.30pm
Thursday 3.30pm to 6.30pm
Saturday 9.00am to 2.00pm
The club session shall be effective once more than four players arrive.
Privately arranged games should not proceed during club sessions once the required number of players arrive, with the exception of Sundays when arranged fours can take place if a court is free after 11am.
If an arranged game does start then the participants are expected to stop after one short set and join in provided there are sufficient other players present. A formalised sequence should be adopted for each session.
Games should be of one short set (first to reach 6 games).
Intermediate members will be allowed to play at all senior club sessions and will have the same rights as the senior members at these times only.
2. SHOE TAGS
Shoe tags will be issued each year to all members on payment of their subscriptions. Members should wear their shoe tag laced into one of their tennis shoes whenever they are using the courts. Anyone not wearing a shoe tag may be asked to leave by a Member who has paid his or her subscription.
3. CLUBHOUSE AND COURT KEYS
Clubhouse and court keys will be issued to senior members at the renewal of subscription upon payment of the appropriate deposit. Court keys are issued to all except Infant Members (Under 11) upon payment of the appropriate deposit, solely for the use of that member and shall not be loaned or given to any other person. The court keys remain the property of the Club and on expiry of Membership must be returned to the Club. Infant Members’ parent/guardian may request a court key, on payment of a £10 deposit.
4. JUNIORS AND INFANTS
Saturday mornings are allocated for junior and infant play and /or coaching throughout the year and Senior Members are required to give way to Juniors during these periods. Unless invited by the Committee, Junior Members may not participate during Senior Club Sessions. (Juniors so invited are known as Intermediate Members.) Obviously if there are unused courts available, they may play with the proviso that they vacate the courts on request of any Senior Member waiting to play. They should stop at the end of the current game, not at the end of a set. Junior and Infant Member must leave the court if it is required by a Senior Member after 7.00pm unless involved in a coaching session. Similarly, they are expected to give way to Senior Members on all four courts on a Saturday afternoon after 2pm.
Junior and Infant Members will have priority as outlined in Junior Coaching Sessions.
5. GUESTS
On payment of the appropriate amount to the club and completion of the Visitors Book by the host member, guests may be invited to play during any period. Guests are expected to observe the Club Rules and are the responsibility of the Member inviting them, who in turn is required to be present for the same period as the guest. Guests playing on more than three occasions are expected to apply for membership if they live in the local area. Prospective Members may attend one club session free of charge before deciding whether to join. Temporary Membership for visitors to the Parish may be arranged by negotiation with the Treasurer
6. COURT HIRE
Court hire to outside parties is no longer possible because of the club’s insurance. Non members would not be covered in any negligence claim made against them.
7. CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR
Appropriate tennis clothing and tennis shoes must be worn at all times on court. Not permitted: denim, Bermuda shorts, beach shirts and trainers. Coloured tracksuits are acceptable.
8. NETS
The nets should be slackened off at the end of each session.
9. MISUSE OF FACILITIES
The Committee reserves the right to withdraw membership from anyone found misusing the facilities of the Club.
10. LEAGUE AND FRIENDLY MATCH FIXTURES
The Club is involved in league and friendly matches with other clubs in the area. These fixtures will not initially be arranged to clash with any club sessions, and dates and times will be publicised as far in advance as possible. Inevitably there will be some matches which have to be re-scheduled, possibly at short notice. It is hoped that the number will be minimal.
A notice on the court gate, the club noticeboard or in the court booking system file will inform members.
Members are asked to bear the fixture dates in mind when making their own arrangements. The Match fixtures take priority and are played to completion.
11. BEHAVIOUR CODE – DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES
Any offensive behaviour by any member when taking part in club or league events should be reported to a Committee member, preferably in writing with independent verification by at least one other member. It may be reported to the committee by another club. The reported matter will be discussed at the next committee meeting. If the offensive behaviour is considered to be of a serious nature then some sort of sanction may be imposed on the member, at the discretion of the Committee. Sanctions may consist of suspension from League Teams, club play for variable periods or any other such sanction as the committee may deem appropriate.
